Władysławowo - the gates to the peninsula
First documented mentions of Władysławowo appeared in the XIII century. Records mention the village of Wielka Wieś, which after merging in 1952 with Hallerowo and a settlement adjacent to the harbour, created an administrative unit called Władysławowo.
The town is inseparably connected with the figures of two prominent persons - King Władysław IV and General Józef Haller. In 1634 in the face of expected Swedish invasion King Władysław IV ordered construction of a war bastion near the Chałupy village. Unfortunately, 10 years later the bastion was totally destroyed.
General Józef Haller came to the village, at the time called Wielka Wieś, to peform on February 11th 1920 the renewed open-sea wedding of Poland with the sea. One of the officers mesmerized by the beauty of the sourrounding landscape purchased 20 hectares of land, and named the settlement Hallerowo, which quickly became a popular summer retreat. Today Władysławowo as a district, encompasses 8 towns - Karwia, Ostrowo, Tupadły, Jastrzębia Góra, Rozewie, Chłapowo and Chałupy. The most important tourist attractions include among others: The Fisherman's House with a viewing tower, the Memorial Center of General Józef Haller and the Blue Army, St Mary of the Assmption church, the Sports Star's Alley, the fishing port adapted to berth yachts, the Ocean Park, the Słone Łąki (Saline Meadows) and Przylądek Rozewski (Rozewie Cape) reserves, Chłapowski Gorge, the lighthouse in Rozewie with a museum, the St. Ignacy Loyola church and the Northern Star Obelisk in Jastrzębia Góra marking the northernmost point of Poland.
You can also spend your time actively in Władysławowo choosing from many possibilities, such as: a wide variety of water sports, including one of the best coditions for both kitesurfing and windsurfing in Europe. You can also take the advantage of safe nd marked bicycle paths of ca 10 km, pedestrian tourist routes, paragliding, horseback riding,fishing for cods off a fishing boat.
Sport facilities such as swiming pools, tennis courts and multifunctional playing fields are also available to both the town's residents and tourists.
Attractive locaton, good communication routes, picturesque landscapes, closeness of the open sea as well as of the Bay 28 km of clean sandy beaches with a dozen or so guarded bathing areas, a number of attractions, a rich offer of options for spending your free time, numerous cultural events, cultivation of the fishery tradition and the Kashubian culture - all this makes Władysawowo a unique place worth visiting.
